Shandong Sunway is the pioneer in domestic sulfur recovery design ,research &development in China. Shandong Sunway has independently developed out his own technology to replace the traditional furnace for sulfur recovery by steam produced in the unit. This KNOW HOW is an invention filling the domestic gap in sulfur recovery ,reached the international advanced level. This KNOW HOW has been assessed as “The national critical & practical Know-how for environment protection in 2012”. Shandong Sunway’s Know-how special for sour gas purification and sulfur recovery in coal chemical /petrochemical industry has been compiled into “The Advanced Technology To Eliminate Air Pollution” by Chinese Science & Technology Ministry and Environment Protection Ministry . The standards SH/T3158-2009 “Petrochemical Industry Tube Shell Waste Heat Boiler” is worked out. Shandong Sunway possess Shandong Sulfur Recovery Engineering Technique Research Center.
Sunway has completed 224 sets of sulfur recovery units in total, with a total capacity of 11.58 million tons/year.

The company closely follows the national policies on energy conservation and emission reduction, low-carbon environmental protection, and the development of circular economy, and conducts technical cooperation with research institutes such as the Ecological Environment Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Sinopec Institute of Safety and Technology, and the Sinopec Shenyang Institute. It adopts various process methods such as alkali washing, incineration, biological method, photocatalytic (ozone) method, adsorption method, and has relevant patented technologies for VOCs treatment.
The company has successively undertaken nearly 70 VOCs governance projects of central and local enterprises such as Sinopec Qilu Branch, Tianjin Branch, China Shenhua Group Ordos Coal to Liquid Company, Baotou Coal to Gas Company, Hengli Petrochemical Company, Shaanxi Shenmu Chemical Company, Guoneng Yulin Chemical Company, Yantai Wanhua Group, etc. In 2012. the company undertook the national 863 project "VOCS and H2S Recovery and Governance Technology and Application in Chemical Industry", The domestically produced high-performance ammonia burner developed by the project can replace imported products. The key research and development plan (major scientific and technological innovation project) project of Shandong Province led by the company, Recycling and High value Utilization Technology and Application of Acid Waste Gas in Chemical Industry, has developed a series of waste gas Recycling and high value utilization technology, supporting functional materials and key equipment, further improving the company's market competitiveness.
